The Cure Glaucoma Foundation Glaucoma Outreach Program helps expand access to glaucoma care and specialized medical training in underserved communities around the world. Through medical mission trips, physician training, and international observerships, the program helps ophthalmologists strengthen their skills in glaucoma diagnosis, treatment, and surgery.
4.5 million people worldwide are blind due to glaucoma. About 90 percent of the world’s blind population lives in developing countries, where people are 5-10 times more likely to go blind than those in developed countries. In underdeveloped countries, the number of ophthalmologists is 2 per 70 million people.
To address these unmet needs, CGF has three global outreach initiatives: Medical Mission Trips, Train the Trainer and International Observerships. The Global Outreach Program aims at enriching the expertise of ophthalmologists who specialize in practicing glaucoma treatment worldwide.
