Global Outreach
4.5 million people worldwide are blind due to glaucoma. About 90 percent of the world’s blind population lives in developing countries, where people are 5-10 times more likely to go blind than those in developed countries. In underdeveloped countries, the number of opthamologists is 2 per 70 million people.
To address these unmet needs, CGF has three global outreach initiatives: Medical Mission Trips, Train the Trainer and International Observerships, aimed at enriching the expertise of ophthalmologists who specialize in practicing glaucoma treatment worldwide.
9 of 10 of the world’s blind live in developing countries,
with 60% living in sub-Saharan Africa, China, and India (APHA, 2011).
