We provide care to needy patients at risk of delaying necessary glaucoma care. When eligible patients are identified by our advisory committee, our Cure Glaucoma liaison at GAT makes arrangements for transportation and provision of care. The Cure Glaucoma Advisory Board has negotiated special rates to maximize the number of patients that Cure Glaucoma can assist through this program.
The cost of care for an adult with glaucoma can be $5,000/year. Patients who cannot afford to pay often forego treatment or follow-up, resulting in worsening of glaucoma and vision loss. Care can’t wait. Once vision is lost, it cannot be recovered. Early detection & treatment is essential. In the early stages of the disease, there may be no symptoms. Experts estimate that more than 50% of the people affected by glaucoma may not know they have it. Although there is no cure yet, loss of vision can be slowed or halted with medical and/or surgical treatment.
